North American Circuit Scoring - six events are scheduled, scores from the
best three of the six events will be counted, including scores for all boats
entered in each regatta. The Low Point System from RRS Appendix A will be
used for all boats that qualify for the Circuit by completing the minimum
three regattas. A minimum of three races must be completed in each event,
with a minimum of six boats entered to qualify the event for Circuit
scoring.
The 2005 Circuit was created through a combination of Owner survey
responses, Annual Meeting comments, direct comments by active Owners and a
desire to support 4 simple concepts intended to increase participation and
qualify more boats for the 2005 Mumm 30 NA Circuit Series:
a.) Including significant NA Series regattas in each of the 2005
regional series and respecting desires for more “local” racing (viewed as
less costly in both time and money) as well as supporting fleet building
efforts in the Great Lakes, Chesapeake Bay and the East Coast.
b.) Scheduling geographically so that 2 Florida regattas, 2 East Coast
regattas and 2 Great Lakes regattas compose the NA Series. Keeping regattas
in the same part of the United States, in sequence, follows the historical
pattern of moving the boats essentially in one direction and minimizing
transport costs.
c.) Scoring 3 Regattas rather than 4 to qualify so that a trip to
Florida is not required to qualify for the NA series. Qualification occurs
with only one regatta outside of your own region, retaining the “national”
flavor of the series while minimizing the costs to participate and qualify.
d.) Outside of KWRW, maintaining Mumm 30 Regattas as 3 day events,
acknowledging that shorter regattas are a significant factor in
participation and a critical factor for both Owners and their Crew. A 3 day
regatta hedges against weather disruption to meet a 4 race minimum, required
for a valid NA Circuit regatta.
