June 19 - Turbo Duck leads the 2008 Farr 30 North American Circuit with one event remaining PDF Print E-mail

Annapolis, MD (June 19, 2008)  After three exciting events on the Farr 30 North American Circuit, Bodo and Nick von der Wense’s Turbo Duck has used great consistency to open up a solid lead in the overall standings.  After finishing a close second in Key West, the team from Wayne, PA has followed up with third place finishes in the Annapolis NOOD and the Cedar Point YC One Design Regatta.  Their overall score of 8 points is 5 better that of John Podmajersky’s Illusion.  Since each boat only counts it’s top three scores, the only team with a chance to pass Turbo for the season championship is Nelson Stephenson’s Team BOLD, which sits in the third position overall despite having to sit out the Cedar Point event.  Three boats have already sailed three events to qualify for circuit scoring and another eight are one event short of qualifying.

The North American Circuit will conclude at the Coastal Living Newport Regatta on July 11-13.  Online Registration, as well as regatta documents and information can be found at http://www.sailnewport.org/npt/m/_general/06newporthome.asp.  The Newport Regatta should be hotly contested in the Farr 30 class, as the top teams will be preparing for the 2008 Farr 30 World Championship on October 1-4 in Newport.  Docking, launching and storage information for the Coastal Living Newport Regatta and the rest of the season can be found at http://www.sailnewport.org/npt/m/_general/m30storage.asp.  Newport is a fantastic sailing destination and Sail Newport is one of the greatest regatta hosting sites in the world.  If you have the opportunity, we strongly encourage you to head to Newport in mid-July for a truly first-class racing experience.

After the North American Circuit concludes, the class will turn its attention to its major championships for the year.  On August 22-24, The Farr30 Class Association in conjunction with the Storm Trysail Club will host the 2008 Farr 30 North American Championship.  Sail Newport will serve as a base of operations for the North Americans and co-organizing authority for the aforementioned Worlds in October.  After 12 years of tight one design racing, the Farr 30 class is still going strong and this year’s championships will prove to be some of the most competitive on record.
