Illusion wins 2005 Mumm 30 North American Circuit

The Rochester Yacht Club 2005 One Design Open Regatta Aug 19-21 was the last race of the 2005 Mumm30 North American Circuit. Twenty-nine Mumm 30s competed in the series, which started with Key West Race Week 2005 and included Miami Race Week, Annapolis NOOD, the Jimmy Fund Regatta in Newport, RI, the Lake Erie Championship in Cleveland, and the Great Lakes Championship at RYC. The best three out of the six events were scored for overall points.

John Podmajersky and his Mumm30 Illusion took home the title with a total of eight points for the series. Podmajersky thanked his crew, "who always puts in a 110% effort", and called the Mumm30 "the best boat I've ever sailed". Mumm30 Class President Nelson Stephenson finished 2nd for the series and third place went to Bodo and Nick Von der Wense of Annapolis. The top three teams entered the last day of the event tied for the regatta and the series championship, which made for exciting racing and a nail-biting finish to a great season of racing.

Boats will be heading south for the 2005 North American Championship, scheduled to take place during the Rolex Farr One Design Invitational event November 4-6 in Miami Beach
