9 December 2002. After digging out from our first major snowstorm of the season, thoughts of the sun and fun in Key West loom larger. Already a dozen Mumm 30s from six different countries around the world have signed up to compete in the Key West Race Week regatta and ten others have indicated they will join in for some great racing and great parties far away from the ice and snow. Wednesday, December 11 is the first deadline for entries without being assessed a late fee penalty.

Once again, the Key West Trophy for International Team Competition will be awarded to the team with the best cumulative scoring of a national team comprised of three boats competing in three separate classes. The 2003 teams are expected to include boats from the Mumm 30, Farr 40 and Melges 24 classes. Premiere Racing should receive team nominations no later than December 26, 2003. Team criteria, entry application and additional information are on the www.premiere-racing.com web site.

We have received a request from an Italian team that would like to charter a Mumm 30 for KWRW. Please contact Stefano Bareggi [email address: stefanobareggi@hotmail.com] if you are interested in chartering your boat for the regatta. Also, Eric Wynsma’s ASYLUM [email address: ewynsma@aol.com] is available for charter if you are looking for a boat to use for the regatta.

Slip space at Key West is filling up – the Galleon reports that they are already full. Several months ago we asked Conch Harbor to set aside spaces for Mumm 30s, however today they indicated they have a waiting list ready to fill those spots. Please call Kristy at Conch Harbor right away (305) 294-2933 to make your reservation to be berthed with other Mumm 30s. After December 15, any extra Mumm 30 berths will be released to the waiting list.

Last but not least, Farr International will continue its tradition of hosting the Key West Race Week Turtle Kraals One Design Party, to be held on January 18, 2003 at 1700 hrs. Invitations will be issued after the New Year. Hope to see you there!
