John Podmajersky and his Mumm30 Illusion took top honors at the 2007 Great Lakes Championship hosted by the Lakeside Yacht Club, in Cleveland Ohio August 10-12.
This is the 3rd consecutive year that Illusion and her crew have come out on top in Cleveland. The three-day event consisted of 11 races in breezes from the 4-12 knot range, producing frequent wind shifts, and tough tactical conditions. PRO Jim Tidgemeyer and his Race Committee did a great job in the shifty conditions, several course changes and tight race management allowed for 10 races in the first 2 days of the event. The event host, Lakeside Yacht Club did a fantastic job, making the fleet feel truly welcome, with a great environment, social events, and terrific menu. |
As usual in the Mumm30 fleet the competition was intense with the fleet converging at each mark rounding and only a few minutes separating the fleet at the finish. “I love sailing the Mumm30”, said John Podmajersky “the boat has such great feel and feedback, and attracts so many top notch sailors.”
Tactician, Max Skelley commented, “the racing is very exciting, the Mumm30 is a tactically demanding boat and these shifty conditions really put a tactician to the test.”
Bruce Eddington’s Australian team aboard Southern Sun finished 2nd and Nelson Stephenson’s Team BOLD was 3rd.
Illusion is powered by Ullman Skelley Sails of Havre de Grace, Maryland, her crew consists of Max Skelley of Ullman Skelley Sails, Jim Barnash, Scott Kulp, Nan and Jason Walker, Cynthia West, and John Podmajersky.
