Eddington keen to defend his Workforce Marine Mumm 30 Australian Champion title
In five days 11 Mumm 30 teams representing New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia will be fighting it out for the title of 2007 Workforce Marine Mumm 30 Australian Champion. The three days of racing will be conducted by Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on the Palm Beach Circle, located off Sydney's famous Palm Beach, over February 2-4.
Returning to defend his title will be 2006 Workforce Marine Mumm 30 Australian Champion, Victorian Bruce Eddington. Eddington won back to back Mumm 30 Australian championships in 2005 and 2006 and will be aiming for a hat trick in 2007.
“We are really looking forward to coming back to race for a third title on the run but it wont be easy. The fleet this year is very strong with Chris Tillett from South Australia, the Holbert brothers and Chris Way and Geoff Couell. The fleet in Australia is definitely building in numbers and strength”, remarked Eddington after his recent win in the Mumm 30 fleet at the Acura Key West Race Week in the USA. Eddington beat previous Mumm 30 European Champion Peter de Ridder’s Mean Machine on a count back.
Also lining up again for a crack at the title will be Port Stephens brothers Guy and Clark Holbert with Rumbo, Queenslander Alex Douglas and his team on Synergy and New South Wales combination of Chris Way and Geoff Couell on Way Cool Racing and Colin Loel's Mumbles.
Competing for the first time with the Mumm 30 class is Western Australian Steve Hindmarsh steering London Calling and local owner Guy Stening and his team on Optimumm.
“I previously had a sports boat called Short Circuit which we raced successfully and placed third in the 2006 AUDI regatta on Sydney Harbour. The Mumm 30 is a natural progression and is one of the fastest 30 foot one design classes around. I like that it has a strong international fleet both in the USA and Europe and the class here is building”, commented Stening.
Joining the one design fleet will be well known offshore Mumm 30 campaigner Anthony Paterson’s Tow Truck from Newcastle. Racing as part of the Tow Truck crew will be a number of Paterson’s regular offshore crew including Brett Filby and Richard Howard.
“We’ve placed on the podium in previous class Australian Championships and are hoping to repeat the performance” said Newcastle local Filby.
