Apr 10 - A MONTH AND A HALF FROM THE START OF DEAUVILLE WEEK 2008

After the first two editions bore witness to great enthusiasm amongst regatta sailors, the third edition of Deauville International Week remains loyal to its values whilst being innovative as regards the sports organisation and the entertainment on shore.

The competition will once again be organised around 3 race zones off Deauville, thus enabling very rapid access to the course and limited waiting times, with a half French half British race committee, nearly 10 series of one designs (identical yachts) and IRC yachts (handicapped racing). A total of 12 races were run in 2007.

The curtain of the first series of the Italian Circuit M 30 falls after three days and nine beautiful races in the waters north of Scoglietto, just off Portoferraio.

The Southerly wind on the final day was more challenging for the fleet, with gusts up to 15 knots and shifts of 30 degrees.

Farneti-Musone’s MON 01 with Lorenzo Bressani calling tactics was dominant winning all of the races on the last day. Mauro Moccheggiani’s Diletta and Gasperoni-Franchini-Zaoli’s Magic Mitsubishi Electric finished second and
third, respectively, in the first race. In the second race, Magic Mitsubishi Electric took second and Spanez, with Mario and Vittorio Volontè on board, took third after an exciting comeback. In the final race, Diletta had another good performance with Andrea Casale as tactician, finishing in second place just ahead of Magic Mitsubishi Electric with Gabriele Benussi.
